Objective: You have to design packaging for rice. The packaging has to be different from what is out there in the market. Apply each one of the SCAMPER techniques and do a write-up on your findings. Then choose the option that you think would work best and do a sketch of what the packaging would look like.


Take ‘ME’ out Single serving boil in bag/net rice.

Target Market: ‘Take Me Out’ Single serving boil in bag/mesh rice is intended for the higher end market. Intended as a showpiece, novelty or gift.

Demographic:  Single professionals between the age of 18-40.


Substitute: *Substitute the regular cardboard box with reusable ,collectible Chinese tea box.
*Substitute loose rice with prepackaged single servings in petite traditional’Takeout boxes’. Recyclable, reusable.


Combine:   *Combined three intrinsically east Asian symbols and consolidated them into one. (Rice, Chinese Oyster boxes, Chinese Lacquer tea box).

Adapt:          *Rice is in single serving packages, rice can be boiled in net (biodegradable heat resistant mesh). Rice and then be put back in Chinese take out oyster box and topped with meat and vegetable of ones choice. Meal can be eaten in portable oyster box.

Multiply or Modify:

*Box comes with 8 single servings, divided in their own portable boxes.

Put to some other use: 

*Lacquer Tea box used as main packaging for Rice. Main package can continued to be   used for more single ‘Take Me Out’ single rice packages, re purposed for tea or for keepsakes.

*Chinese Oyster boxes used for single serving rice. Boxes can be reused for lunches/snacks.


Eliminate:        *No need for a measuring cup when making rice.

*No need for clean up with boil in mesh bag.

* No need to dirty plates, due to convenient Take out Oyster Boxes.

Reverse or Rearrange it:

*Standards of conventional rice packaging reversed (several to serve one instead of one

to serve several).
